Caution advised after student is attacked
October 22, 2008
Despite reports of a student being attacked Wednesday in the Beaver Lake Estates neighborhood, police “believe that there is not any danger to anyone else in the public,” said Sgt. Robert Baxter, of the Sammamish Police.
According to a police report, a 12-year-old girl was walking near 253rd Place Northeast and 28th Street Southeast at 2:30 p.m. She heard a rustling in the bushes and felt herself being pulled down by her backpack, the report said.
She reported being kicked and punched before the attacker fled the scene. She described the attacker as a male between 12 and 16 years old, about 5-feet 6-inches tall. She said he was wearing a black sweatshirt and pants and dark shoes.
School officials are working with parents and Sammamish Police to investigate the case, said Josh Almy, principal of Beaver Lake Middle School.
The school’s priority now is to educate students about safety, he said.
“We are working with the kids at lunchtime today and telling them to walk home in groups,” Almy said.
He urged parents or students who might have information about the incident to call Sammamish Police at 295-0770.
