Richard Worth McClain 

Richard W. McClain, of Issaquah, died Oct. 11, 2008, at the age of 79.He was born June 15, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, to Clifford and Josephine (Carney) McClain.

Richard received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Findlay. 

A sports enthusiast, he played college basketball, baseball and football, and also played in a local softball and bowling league. He traveled as a member of a college quartet and men’s glee club. Richard served as church school superintendent and sang in the church choir and Findlay Lyric Ensemble. He was a tenor soloist in major oratorios, weddings and programs. 

Richard and his wife Patricia were married 58 years, and one of his greatest enjoyments was spending time with his family. He was a custom homebuilder and developer with his father-in-law, Dwight Stowell, for 18 years, and they built more than 300 homes in the Findlay area.

They moved to La Jolla, Calif., for 18 years, where he was a corporate personnel consultant, specializing in executive recruiting for major developers across the U.S. 

Golfing and traveling in their motor home were among his favorite activities, along with working crossword puzzles, reading and watching sports. They traveled to Europe and Asia and loved spending time in Maui every summer, especially for their 50th anniversary, when they were accompanied by their family. 

Dick had a deep faith in God and was a kind-hearted man who always put others before himself. He was known for his sense of humor and his love for people. Dick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale McClain. Dick is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Issaquah; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark S. and Lizabeth McClain, of Redmond; two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Connell, of Redmond, and Diane and Mark Kulp, of Sammamish; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who all live in this area.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Sammamish Presbyterian Church, 22522 N.E. Inglewood Hill Road., Sammamish. 

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.
