John L Hysong, of Issaquah, died in Bellevue on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008. He was 73.Service information will be posted at the Flintoft’s Funeral Home Web site. 

John was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, the son of William and Mary Hysong. He served in the Air Force, received his engineering degree and began working on many highly classified projects. In 1961, in Cheyenne, Wyo., he met and married his wife Gail Desart while working on the Minuteman Missile project. 

They then moved to New Orleans, where he worked for 13 years on the rocket boosters for the Apollo missions. In 1973, John and his family relocated to Renton, where he worked as an engineer for The Boeing Co., working on projects such as the B1 bomber. The family moved to Issaquah in 2006.

As a hobby, John loved to build furniture and toys for his children. He was also fascinated by the workings of Nikola Tesla and built devices based on the writings of this inventor. He was preceded in death by his parents William H. Hysong and Mary M. Adams.

John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail Hysong, and daughters Tamera McDowell, Pamela Hysong-Shimazu, Patty Mermel and Susan Welland.
