Going to school shouldn’t feel like washing hair

The alarm rings. It’s the worst sound in the world, making me cringe every morning. Even after I turn it off, I remain in bed. Good morning, sunshine.
Getting dressed and eating are the same routine. Just like the directions on a shampoo bottle: lather, rinse, repeat. Then, I get in the car and go to school.
Driving to school is more of a challenge than it should be. There are 12 cars trying to get into the school parking lot, and this is when I realize that I shouldn’t have taken those 10 extra minutes to sleep in. But I spent all night working on an essay, which, of course, I put off until the last minute, so I’m justified in needing the extra sleep.
Then, there’s first period, second period and third period. They all mean one thing: sleep. But due to the soundtrack of walls being torn down during lectures and drills powering off during movies, it’s almost impossible to sleep through the construction.
Which means that fourth, fifth and sixth period are spent staring at the clock, wondering when my teacher is ever going to stop talking. And then, the bell rings, and it’s the sound of heaven. Oh wait, no, it doesn’t, because there are no bells due to the construction. But the clock turns 2:16 anyway and people race out of class.
I go home. I do homework. Actually that’s a lie — I talk online and tell my parents I’m doing homework, but wait until 10 to actually start. I shower, brush my teeth and I do all the other mundane things in the world. I go to bed. It’s all the same, never changing. Lather, rinse, repeat. Then, the alarm rings. Good morning, sunshine.
