Root for local comic in Seattle competition

Justin Rupple, of Issaquah, is one of five finalists in the 29th annual Seattle International Stand-Up Comedy Competition.

Rupple won entry into the final at the competition’s semifinals Nov. 23 at The Club Casino and Marsons Restaurant in Everett.

He is one of two finalists from Washington. Rupple competes against Nate Johnson, of Lacey; Lars Cailliou, of Alberta, Canada; Tommy Savitt, of Los Angeles; and Todd Johnson, of Boise, for the title of comedy king, the grand prize of $5,000 and a recording contract with Uproar Entertainment.

The final performances are held in Washington. The first is a private kick-off event at the Washington Athletic Club, followed by public shows Nov. 28 at the Kirkland Performance Center; Nov. 29 at The Admiral Theatre, in Bremerton; and Nov. 30 at The Comedy Underground, in Seattle.

Rupple came in fourth in the first finals night Nov. 25.
