Celebrate the holidays with the Issaquah History Museums at its annual holiday open house. Festivities include a handmade craft fair, a children’s craft table, holiday refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.Museums Director Erica Maniez said the event is a great opportunity for locals to celebrate the holidays, as well as check out the museum.

“The holiday open house is a great time for community members to have fun while exploring the history of their own city,” she said.

Past years have seen as many as 100 people attend. With free attendance, free refreshments and unique gift choices with the craft fair this year, Maniez said she hopes to see more people.

An added bonus this year is Santa photographs. Usually, the museums charge a fee for photos taken by staff members; this year, however, people may bring their own digital cameras and take their own Santa pictures for free.

“We are deciding to make it less complicated when it comes to Santa,” Maniez said. “We just want the kids to have fun.”

Children can also design their own Depression-era inspired ornaments. Volunteers help children learn how practically anything was turned into an ornament during the Depression, which makes things educational and fun.

Volunteer coordinator Karen Klein said that along with the children’s craft table, volunteers are needed for refreshments, to greet guests and to help the children with Santa.

“Volunteers help to make things run smoothly when it comes to preparing the children to see Santa,” she said. “It makes the transition smoother from child to child.”

Volunteers must be at least 13. Learn more at www.issaquahhistory.org.
