Skyline High School junior quarterback Jake Heaps has added yet another accolade to his football resume.

He was recently chosen by the Associated Press as the Washington Player of the Year for football. He was also chosen as the Class 4A state player of the year, after he led Skyline to its second state title in as many years.

Heaps received all but three votes for player of the year. Two went to Kirby Moore, of Prosser, and one went to Heaps’ teammate, senior Gino Simone.

As a starter at Skyline, Heaps has yet to lose a game in two seasons, with a 28-0 record with the Spartans.

Heaps is considered one of the most sought-after high school recruits in the nation for 2009.

In 2008, he threw for 2,888 yards and 38 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.

Liberty sophomore Trey Wheeler made the All State Class 3A team for his performance as a punter in 2008.

Wheeler punted the ball 20 times this season and averaged 36 yards per punt. His longest punt, 52 yards, came in a win against Mercer Island Sept. 19.

Liberty finished its season 6-3.
