Betty White

Betty “Booner” White, a lifelong Issaquah resident, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. She was 72. Betty was born June 20, 1936, in Snoqualmie Falls, to William and Jean Kiske. She was raised in Issaquah and attended Issaquah High School.

A bus driver for the Issaquah School District for more than 20 years, Betty was known to love her student passengers and the camaraderie of her coworkers.

On July 13, 1956, she married William Charles Carey in Issaquah. They lived in Issaquah, where they raised three children; she and William later divorced. In 1983, Betty married Steven T. White in Issaquah. They settled in Historic Downtown Issaquah, where they cherished each day together for more than 26 years.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, playing pool, playing cards and having a social beverage with friends at the Eagles Club or H&H Tavern. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who possessed a quick wit and generous spirit. She is deeply missed.

Survivors include her devoted husband Steven, of Issaquah; loving children Kevin and Gina Carey, of Renton, Jeff and Mary Vandel, of Fall City, and Jim Carey, of Mill Creek; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Eagles Club in Issaquah. Private interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery.

Friends are invited to view photos and share memories in the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com.
