The 10 year-old Klahanie girl who told sheriff’s deputies she was kidnapped by a long-haired stranger Jan. 19 now says it didn’t happen, police said.

The girl confessed the lie to her parents Saturday evening, and the parents promptly notified detectives investigating the case, King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman John Urquhart wrote in a news release.

The girl provided a motive for the false report, but that information will not be released, he said.

For police, the case is closed.

    Someone needs her bottom paddled.

I agree with BBurke – someone needs her bottom paddled. A 10 year old is of age to comprehend the implications of her actions. She has publically embarrassed her family – I’d suggest her parents consider what other parents here in the Pacific NW have done – make her stand on a corner with a sign apologizing for lying to law enforcement officials, her parents, and for putting any man in serious jeopardy who matched the description as a potential “suspect” , Her behavior was disgraceful and her parents are in no way to blame – I hope they understand that she knew exactly what she was doing and made a very bad decision that could have cost an innocent man his life. Otherwise, the message she and other children get from this is that nothing will happen and you get some cool attention no matter what.

JHuber…whoa!! A ten-year-old is of age??? Do, or have you ever, had children of your own? She has publicly embarassed her family? Are you actually serious? A child of this age does not do something like this for kicks, or “cool attention”…a child of this age does something like this because s/he is troubled about something. The fact that the police are not releasing information about the motive is telling…

Could have cost an innocent man his life? Do you actually believe it would ever have gone that far? If so, the child would be…not seeking cool attention…but psychopathic…and ten year olds just aren’t…

You, my friend, should stay away from children, so that they don’t turn into adults like you…
