Charles H. Schaefer

Charles H. Schaefer, formerly of Issaquah and Renton, died in Ellensburg on Jan. 22, 2009. He was 83.

A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Jan. 29, at Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way. Following the service, there will be a gathering for family and friends. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. Jan. 29 until the service.

Charlie was born July 2, 1925, in Seattle, the son of Herbert and Theresa Schaefer. He was raised in Renton and attended Renton High School. Charlie married Bette Ruddell, of Bellevue, on April 26, 1945, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Charlie was a carpenter by trade and built many homes in the Hazelwood, Newport Hills and Newcastle areas, and on Mercer Island. In the early ’70s, Charlie moved his family from Renton to Issaquah, on five acres, to add farming to his list of activities, and he shifted his carpentry focus to building foundations. 

He volunteered many hours to the Four Lakes Community of Issaquah, where he lived, and was recognized by the community for his years of dedicated service. For the past three years, Charlie and his wife Bette lived together with their daughter Cindy Majors and her family in Ellensburg.

Charlie, was a recent widower, but is survived by his four children, Linda (Schaefer) Holecek and husband John, of Renton, Marvin Schaefer and wife Kathy, of Issaquah, Cindy (Schaefer) Majors and husband Jim, of Ellensburg, and Ryan Schaefer, of Issaquah; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Walt Schaefer, of Renton; and sister Marion (Schaefer) Jordan, of Reno, Nev.

Arrangements are by Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory.
