Bob Nelson (above)places a hand on son Erik’s shoulder through much of President Barack Obama’s inaugural address Jan. 20 during a breakfast party for parents and their students in the fifth-grade classroom of Issaquah Valley Elementary School teacher Susan Adler. More than 50 students and parents filled the classroom for the morning’s pomp and circumstance televised from Washington, D.C. Sam Schaengold (below, left) waves a flag as he sits with his mother Teri. Parents provided decorations, food and refreshments for the class party.
