Rep. Glenn Anderson and Sen. Cheryl Pflug, from the 5th District, answered questions about the state of education and its funding at a roundtable organized by the Snoqualmie Valley PTSA Council Jan. 9. 

Much of the conversation revolved around ideas presented by the Basic Education Finance Joint Task Force. The bipartisan task force has formulated a new model for financing basic education. The model, which calls for no new taxes, will be presented this legislative session. Read more

When Mary Rusk set foot in Clark Elementary School for the first time this school year on Jan. 5, she felt like her life had finally become complete again.

Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, Jack Steidl took his position alongside the Notre Dame Marching Band. With trumpet in hand, he stood on the same field he did more than 70 years ago. Now 89, the Issaquah man is the oldest living member of the university’s marching band.

But this was no ordinary performance. The alumni band was back home in Indiana to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the university’s fight song, “Notre Dame Victory March.” Members of the classes of 1941 through 2007 returned to campus to celebrate the milestone. Read more
