Thanks to a jumbled season, gymnastics coaches in the KingCo Crest League may have still been wondering exactly what to expect of Issaquah High School.
On Jan. 15, they received their answer.

If the Issaquah High School gym were a tad bigger, the Jan. 16 league basketball match-up between the Eagles and district rival Skyline Spartans would have looked more like the historic state football title game in the Tacoma Dome last month.
Capacity limits aside, everyone with an interest in the heated rivalry showed up to see Issaquah beat Skyline 58-40. Read more

Jae Shin scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter to lead Mercer Island High School to a 65-58 victory at home against Liberty Jan. 16.
Shin, scored the Islanders’ first 15 points coming out of halftime on five 3-pointers. The Islanders (9-4, 4-1 in KingCo 3A/) made 10 3-pointers from five different players for their sixth consecutive win against the Patriots (9-3, 3-2).
“I thought Mercer Island played a really good game,” said Liberty coach Randy Leifer. “They hit their threes and I thought our girls flat out played hard. I’m real proud of the way they played.” Read more

Mercer Island’s Robbie Taylor scored 15 points in leading the Islanders to a 58-38 home victory against the Liberty High School Patriots Jan. 16.
Mercer Island scored 20 points to Liberty’s 9 in the third quarter to put the game away after the Islanders led at halftime 28-16.
Liberty is 3-9 overall and 0-5 in KingCo league action. With the win, Mercer Island moves to 8-5, 4-1. Read more

I haven’t played a round of golf since 1986, but I’ve been to The Golf Club at Newcastle numerous times in the past three years. What keeps bringing me back is The Calcutta Grill, the golf club’s restaurant.
Come for the excellent food, friendly and attentive wait staff, and while you’re there, enjoy the breathtaking view of Bellevue and Seattle. The name Calcutta conjures up images of India, but this calcutta is a golfing term.
The term “calcutta” describes a type of auction-pool wagering that can be applied to golf and many other sporting events. In golf, a calcutta is most common at a tournament featuring four-person teams, but a calcutta can be held in conjunction with any type of golf tournament.
