ISD board: Go live on Internet

For years, we have advocated for the Issaquah School Board to televise its meetings. But we have also understood the reluctance of working with many different cable franchises that serve the cities and unincorporated areas that make up the district.

But the Lake Washington School Board may have taken the excuses away. Last week, it took a welcome step toward greater transparency and accountability when it began streaming its meetings on the Internet.

No longer will interested citizens need to sit through a long board meeting away from home and family. And if the time isn’t convenient, the meetings will also be archived on the district’s Web site.

Watching the board in action can only help with communications. The myriad mundane policies board members discuss and the handful of more arousing topics may not become a prime-time favorite, but there will be plenty who tune in at their convenience to see what’s going on or to re
