Jenelle “Nellie” (Cox) Bales, of Sammamish, died peacefully Jan. 24, 2009, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.Nellie was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Greenville, S.C. She was a Southern lady who married Navy man Charles “Sam” Bales and moved to various cities before settling in San Diego, Calif. They had six children born in four different cities, and the entire family enjoyed travel, snow and water skiing, and having fun together.

Nellie was a spunky, family-oriented lady with a great sense of humor. She was a homemaker, PTA president, travel agency owner and worked in property management with her husband for many years. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Sam; her eldest son, Jerry; and her middle son, Donald. After Sam’s death in 1993, she moved to Sammamish to be closer to her children and grandchildren.  

She is survived by her son Mark Bales, daughters Charnelle Bales and Carolyn Conroy, of Sammamish, and daughter Jennifer Miley, of Spokane. She is also survived by her Southern siblings Don and Joanne Cox, Mary Cox and Polly Bolt, from South Carolina, and Allen and Diane Cox, of Arkansas, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her six grandchildren.

In lieu of a memorial, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memoriam of her husband, Charles Bales. 

Arrangements are by Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory.
