David Higginson Weekes, of Issaquah, died March 13, 2009, in the Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland. He was 53.

A celebration of David’s life will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the University of Washington Botanical Garden, 3501 N.E. 41st St., Seattle.

David was born in Oyster Bay, N.Y., to the late Townsend U. Weekes and Margaret R. Weekes. 

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Anne; son Andrew; brother Townsend (Diana Collins) of Oyster Bay; sister Elizabeth (Henry) Burden, of Seattle; nieces; and a nephew. 

He attended Brooks School, graduated cum laude from University of Virginia and received an MBA from The Johns Hopkins University. 

David devoted 22 years to The Nature Conservancy, from Florida to Ohio to Washington state, where he served for the past eight years as state director. David’s invaluable guidance to the Conservancy’s China Program and his central role in helping launch the organization’s marine program are a lasting legacy.
