Honors for Salmon Days include the association’s top award in its highest category. Salmon Days received the first place Gold Summit Award in the highest category: Best Overall Promotional Campaign within its budget category of $150,000 and above. The award is the top honor, and takes into account all aspects of promotion for the event, including marketing, media and merchandising. The second Gold Summit Award was presented for Best Collectible Poster.

Salmon Days netted three Silver Summit Awards for Best Newspaper Insert, Best Promotional Merchandise and Best Souvenir Pin. The festival reeled in two Bronze Summit Awards for Best Web Site and Best T-shirt Design.

Entries for the competition were based on the 2008 Salmon Days campaign, which used the theme “It’s A Wonderful Whirl.”

Longtime Salmon Days volunteer Joyce Adams won the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Award. She was nominated for contributing more than 500 hours to the festival since 1992. Adams uses her expertise to organize everything from nametags to the Grande Parade. She also serves as an “Ohfishal Salmbassador” for the event. In this role, she travels to festivals across the Pacific Northwest to promote Salmon Days.

“We are thrilled and delighted that Joyce was honored in this way. All our volunteers are valued and appreciated,” Salmon Days Director of Festivals Robin Kelley said in a news release. “We hope that more people will join our Salmon Days family and enjoy the camaraderie of volunteering for a fun community event.”

Winners were honored March 3 at the annual Northwest Festivals and Events Conference in Ocean Shores.

The Issaquah Salmon Days Office produces the festival on behalf of the Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce. Salmon Days will mark its 40th anniversary when it returns Oct 3.
