Evelyn P. Meeks, of Issaquah, died April 27, 2009. She was 97.A graveside service was May 1 at Sumner Cemetery in Sumner.

Evelyn was born July 7, 1911, in Washington, Pa., the daughter of Patrick and Mary Lang Morris. She graduated from Washington High School and Washington Business College. She worked at Duncan Glass Factory until she married Harry L. Meeks. 

She and her husband lived in Buffalo, N.Y., and then built two homes in Boston and New York. They then came to the Northwest in 1951 and settled and built a home in Preston. 

Evelyn volunteered at the Issaquah Food Bank for more than 15 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing cards. 

Evelyn is survived by her two sons, Larry (Susan) Meeks, of Issaquah, and Harry G. Meeks, of Seattle; four grandchildren, Richard (Jennifer) Meeks, of Maple Valley, Randy Meeks, of Monroe, Ryan (Bernice) Meeks, of Redmond, and Kelly Meeks, of Seattle; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Alyssa and Lillian; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Harry L. Meeks and her five brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements are by Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Duncan Miller Glass Museum in Washington, Pa., Issaquah Food Bank or to your favorite charity.
