Eagle throws shutouts
The Issaquah High School softball team got two shutouts from pitcher Mikenzie Voves Thursday as the Eagles stayed alive in the 4A KingCo Conference Tournament at Redmond’s Hartman Park.
Issaquah plays again today at 3 p.m. against the loser of Thursday’s game between Lake Washington and Bothell. If the Eagles win the 3 p.m. contest, they would advance to a playoff contest against a Greater St. Helens League team and a berth in next week’s state tournament.
Voves struck out 12 batters, allowed two hits and walked one as the Eagles blanked Eastlake 4-0 in their first game Thursday. Kelly Richards had two hits for Issaquah.
In the second game, Voves tossed another two-hitter and struck out six as Issaquah blanked Inglemoor 2-0. Kenna Olsen had two hits for Issaquah.
Lacrosse teams meet tonight
Issaquah hosts Skyline at 7 p.m. today in the quarterfinals of the Washington State Lacrosse League state Division I tournament. Issaquah enters the game as the defending state champion.
The teams met a week ago in a league contest with Issaquah winning 12-5. Issaquah finished the regular season in second place while Skyline ended up seventh.
The winner of tonight’s contest will meet Bainbridge Island in the semifinals next week.
Teams on the road
Issaquah and Liberty high school baseball teams will be on the road Saturday as they enter state regional competition.
Issaquah, 13-11, plays South Kitsap in a 4A regional contest at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tacoma’s Heidelberg Park. The winner meets Marysville-Pilchuck or Tahoma at 4 p.m. in the regional championship game.
Liberty, 20-4, travels further south. The Patriots meet Timberline at 1 p.m. in a 3A regional at Centralia’s Wheeler Field. The winner of the game meets Auburn Mountainview or Bishop Blanchet at 4 p.m. in the regional title contest.
The regional champions advance to the state semifinals May 29 at Seattle’s Safeco Field.
Issaquah’s boys soccer team also travels Saturday. The Eagles, in the state tournament for the first time, play Marysville-Pilchuck at 1 p.m. at Lake Stevens High in a 4A state quarterfinal. The winner advances to the state semifinals May 29 at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.
Issaquah defeated Rogers, of Puyallup, Tuesday in the first round. Marysville-Pilchuck edged Gig Harbor 2-1.
