Officers still investigating

A 33-year-old Issaquah man arrested in connection with a May 14 incident was not involved in the case, Issaquah Police said May 20.The man, arrested by Seattle Police several hours after the confrontation, had an alibi: He was in Seattle when the incident occurred.

Issaquah Police Cmdr. Scott Behrbaum said the man was eliminated as a suspect in the case May 19. No charges were filed against the man in relation to the incident.

“We were able to investigate and confirm that he was indeed not in the city of Issaquah,” Behrbaum said.

Officers are working to identify a man who allegedly brandished a handgun during a confrontation with an acquaintance. Behrbaum said there was likely not a threat to public safety.

He said officers planned to conduct another interview with the man who first contacted police. Investigators planned to interview another man who was near the area when the confrontation occurred but did not witness the incident.

The man who contacted police — an Issaquah man in his mid-30s — said he and an acquaintance were involved in a confrontation May 14 at a medical building at 450 N.W. Gilman Blvd. The man told police the acquaintance threatened him with a handgun and then fled on foot. No shots were fired.

Police said the incident could have been drug motivated. Officers received a 911 call at about 11 a.m.

Officers focused their search downtown and along Northwest Gilman Boulevard. Issaquah Valley Elementary School and the Issaquah School District administration building were locked down for about two hours in the late morning and early afternoon while police searched nearby for the suspect.

The man arrested in connection with the case was with people in Seattle at the time of the confrontation, police said. He is being held at the King County Jail for violating his probation related to an assault charge.

“We take these kind of reports at face value when they come in,” Behrbaum said. “We take them very seriously.”
