Natalie Dungey (left), a fourth-grader at Grand Ridge Elementary, smiles with her new $2,000 silver-plated brass trumpet, the grand prize for her age division in the National Trumpet Competition held earlier this month in Fairfax, Va. Garry Nakayama, the Mills Music educational rep servicing the Issaquah School
District, and Steve Wilson, the district sales manager for Jupiter Band Instruments, came to the school to present the prize, a Jupiter XO professional trumpet. In the 15-and-under division, the 10-year-old is the youngest winner in the 17-year history of the competition. Dungey’s winning performance can be seen on YouTube.
