The Issaquah girls lost 14-8 to Mercer Island in its first ever Washington state Division 2 lacrosse championship game May 16 at Eastside Catholic’s Charlie Acosta Field.

 Issaquah took a while to get on the board in the first half, but managed to stay in the game with help from the league’s second-leading scorer, Katie Mincin. 

The Islander defense held the Lady Eagles goalless until 31 seconds remained in the first half. Mercer Island led 5-1 at the break. Read more

Bellevue edges Liberty 4-3 to claim KingCo 3A tournament title

Bellevue pitcher Jake Collier allowed three hits over six innings to lead the Wolverines to a 4-3 victory against Liberty High School on May 16 to win the KingCo 3A championship at Bannerwood Park.

Bellevue, who lost all three regular season games to Liberty, clinched the KingCo 3A top seed to the state playoffs.

The game was tied at 3 after seven innings. With one out in the top of the eighth inning, Collier lined a single to left field. Dan Eck was then called in from Liberty’s bullpen to pitch to Nick Moyer, of Bellevue. Moyer singled to center. Taylor Anderson walked to load the bases. Bellevue’s reserve infielder Justin Patrick grounded out to shortstop, scoring Collier to put the Wolverines up 4-3. Read more

Eagle boys qualify for their first trip to state

The Issaquah High School boys soccer team assured itself of a page in the program’s history book May 17 when the Eagles defeated Evergreen, of Vancouver, 2-1 in sudden death overtime to qualify for the 4A state tournament. Read more

 The run of 3A state tournament appearances for the Liberty High School softball team finally came to an end May 15, when the Patriots lost to Bellevue 8-4 in a loser-out KingCo Conference tournament game. Read more
