A 15-year-old Issaquah boy was arrested for suspicion of animal cruelty after police said he stabbed a turtle and tried to crush the reptile with a rock.Police arrested the boy in the 100 block of Mount Olympus Drive Southwest at noon July 13.

Issaquah Police Department Patrol Cmdr. Scott Behrbaum said an adult discovered the boy as he was injuring the turtle. Behrbaum said the turtle was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment. The turtle was alive at press time.

If the reptile dies, Behrbaum said the boy could be charged with second-degree animal cruelty — a more serious charge. Penalties would depend on whether the animal survives and the boy’s past criminal record.

That’s terrible! I can’t believe anyone would do that.
