Sammamish teen leads Issaquah Swim Team at PNS championship

Katie Kinnear, of the Issaquah Swim Team, hit the jackpot July 23-26 at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Long Course Championships in the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.Kinnear, competing in the girls 13-14 age bracket, won eight individual events and swam as a member of three victorious relays.
The Eastlake High School student won the 50-meter freestyle (27.25 seconds), 100 freestyle (58.66), 200 freestyle (2:08.23), 100 backstroke (1:04.30), 200 backstroke (2:20.13), 200 butterfly (2:18.19), 200 individual medley (2:21.91) and the 400 individual medley (5:00.98). She also swam as a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.
Katie Volodkevich, Kayla Flaten and Stacy Maier were other members of the relays. The 400 medley relay finished second.
Maier won the 1,500 freestyle (18:17.55), and Volodkevich had second places in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.92) and 200 breaststroke (2:45.35).
Kinnear wasn’t the only big winner for the Issaquah Swim Team.
Ben Allen, competing in the boys 13-14 bracket, had seven first places.
He won the 400 freestyle (4:15.12), 800 freestyle (8:54.90), 1,500 freestyle (17:16.48), 100 backstroke (1:04.68), 200 backstroke (2:17.93), 200 individual medley (2:18.33) and 400 individual medley (4:58.61). He also had a third place in the 200 freestyle (2:01.58).
Jacob Leahy, competing in the boys 10-and-under bracket, won four events and swam as a member of two winning relays.
Leahy won the 50 freestyle (33.01), 50 backstroke (38.61), 50 butterfly (34.24) and 100 butterfly (1:18.85). He had a second place in the 100 freestyle (1:11.96) and a third in the 100 backstroke (1:25.16). Leahy swam on the victorious 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. Other members were Ryan Kinnear, Johnathan Cassady and Brandon Leu.
Ryan Kinnear won the 100 backstroke (1:22.80) and the 200 individual medley (3:00.87). He also took second in the 50 backstroke (39.25).
Andi Taylor, a Skyline High School student who swims for the King Team, won the girls 15-and-under 800 freestyle (8:40.61). She also swam as a member of the winning 400 medley relay (4:23.96).
Brian Davis, a former Issaquah High School state champion, finished second in the boys 15-and-over 400 freestyle (4:08.42). Shannon Cassady, competing in the girls 10-and-under bracket, had a second in the 50 breaststroke (43.24).
