Development Commission gives OK to Marriott hotelCity development commissioners approved plans Aug. 19 for a SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel near the Maple Street Building, but attached several conditions to the project.

The plan heads back to the Development Commission for further review Sept. 16.

City Senior Planner Jerry Lind said it was typical for a large-scale project to have several conditions attached by the Development Commission.

Developers plan to build a five-story, 143,700-square-foot hotel and two levels of above-grade parking on a 1.6-acre site.

The hotel, which would include 145 rooms and parking for 203 vehicles, would be built south of Northwest Maple Street and east of 12th Avenue Northwest. A parking lot on the site would be demolished to make room for the hotel.

Developers asked city officials to allow a portion of the building height to extend to about 50 feet, and to share parking with the nearby Maple Street Building.
