Issaquah residents earn scholarships from WWUThe following Issaquah students recently received scholarships from Western Washington University:

April Hayden, daughter of Tom and Elaine Hayden, of Issaquah, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top 8 percent to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and are based on superior academic achievement. Hayden, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.86 grade point average at Eastside Catholic High School and is interested in majoring in art. Hayden was a member of the National Honor Society and was recognized with first honors at Eastside Catholic. She participated in varsity lacrosse and Photography Club.

Gail Butler, daughter of Thomas and Joan Butler, of Issaquah, received a $1,000 Biology Student Athlete Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. The Biology Student Athlete Scholarship is awarded to biology majors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in upper-division biology courses and participation in any intercollegiate sport. Butler, a senior, earned a 3.65 grade point average and is majoring in cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry. Butler participated in track and field and was a member of NSCS and the GNAC All-Academic Team. Butler plans to complete a graduate program in nutritional science, with the hope of one day becoming a nutritional scientist.

Lindsay Crocker, daughter of Richard Crocker, of Niles, Mich., and Carol Crocker of Ann Arbor, Mich., received a $500 Bernard Boylan Memorial Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. The Bernard Boylan Scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate history major. Crocker, a senior, formerly of Issaquah, earned a 3.68 grade point average and is majoring in history and political science. Crocker was on the president’s list and was a member of Phi-Eta-Sigma. She participated with Young Life, and was a unit director at YMCA Camp Orkila.

Local students make WWU honor roll

The following students were named to the Western Washington University honor roll for the spring 2009 quarter. To qualify for the honor roll, students must complete at least 14 graded credit hours during a quarter and be in the top 10 percent of their class.
