Welcome back, students — a new school year has begun!
All students feel some form of excitement about a new school year and I have to admit that I am excited for this year to begin. Whether students are excited about new classes, new school supplies and clothes, or just seeing their friends again, the beginning of a school year creates an opportunity for a fresh start. It is fun to start a new year with a clean slate.
The construction of the Issaquah High School campus epitomizes the spirit of new beginnings. The skeleton of the future school currently dominates the grounds. As a senior, I will never attend the finished school. But seeing the school torn down and rebuilt right before our eyes is in a way, inspiring.
Yes, our class will always wish that we could have attended the beautiful new school, but when we return to campus for our 10-year reunion, we will understand that our minor discomforts were part of a grander purpose for making a new beginning for the students at Issaquah High.
In the spirit of the changes that are taking place at our school, I am going to make my own changes. This year, I am going to make the most of every opportunity, and I hope other students, no matter what grade or high school they attend, do the same.
Go to a variety of sporting events, participate in spirit week activities, join school clubs, meet new friends and, in general, try things that you have never tried before. These are four short years of our lives and we should make the most of them.
So, this year, let us make our own, individual fresh start and make this school year the best it can be.
