Patriots rock Islanders

Chandler Jenkins scored three touchdowns Sept. 17 as the unbeaten Liberty High School Patriots walloped visiting Mercer Island 51-13 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference football game.

Jenkins, a junior, rushed for touchdowns on runs of 20 and 55 yards. He also caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Liberty quarterback Trey Wheeler.

Wheeler, a junior, threw three touchdown passes in all. He connected with Peter Wiggum on a 26-yard scoring strike in the first quarter and hit Jake Bainton on a 7-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Jay Chakravarty rushed for two third-quarter touchdowns for the Patriots.

Liberty, ranked fourth in The Seattle Times Class 3A state poll,  led 23-0 after the first quarter and 37-7 at halftime.

Liberty, Sammamish  tie

Cassidy Nangle’s goal at the 76th minute enabled the Liberty High School girls soccer team to tie host Sammamish 2-2 Sept. 17 in a 3A/2A KingCo Conference contest,

Sammamish led 1-0 at halftime and held a 2-0 lead mid-way through the second half. Midfielder Treva LeRoy, assisted by Carly Mackinnon, scored Liberty’s first goal at the 66th minute. Nangle, a forward, scored the tying goal off an assist from midfielder Shannon Daly.
