I-90 Community Church, the newest faith community on Seattle’s Eastside, is gathering in a very unconventional location. But according to Lead Pastor Dave Urban, that’s the point.

“We think church should be fun, engaging and relevant,” Urban said. “And nothing’s more relevant to Eastside families than their children. That’s why KidzBounce is the perfect location for us.”

Urban said meeting at an indoor, giant inflatables arena reflects one of the church’s most important values.

“We tell parents that your child’s hour at I-90 is just as important to us as yours is. Every person is of equal worth and value to God, including our children,” he said. “At I-90, we want kids to know they matter to us just as much as their parents do, and I think they feel that right away when they visit us for the first time.”

For the past four months, I-90 Community Church has been holding monthly “preview” services and is about to have its public launch Sept. 27. The church’s mission is to “help people along the I-90 corridor and beyond to know and become like Jesus Christ.”

“We have no desire to make people religious,” Urban said. “We just want others to know Jesus and become like him. That means living lives of grace, love, humility, service and forgiveness. We don’t care who you voted for, how you dress or where you come from. Jesus wants to be in a relationship with everyone.”

Urban also likes to emphasize the church’s passion for communicating to our culture through its two most influential mediums — music and movies. And both make their way into every service. And what takes place in I-90 Kids, the church’s Sunday morning program for infants through fifth-graders?

“Well, there is definitely a lot of bouncing going on, that’s for sure. But that’s just the beginning,” Urban said. “The kids participate in everything from singing to games to skits to stories. And most importantly, they receive love and inspiration in a safe, healthy environment.”

I-90 Community Church meets at 10 a.m. Sundays at KidzBounce, 8178 304th Ave. S.E., in the Preston Industrial Park. Call 222-5439.
