Issaquah golfers top Garfield
Derek Wilson shot a 1-under par 35 Sept. 21 to lead the Issaquah High School boys golf team to a 182-206 4A KingCo Conference victory against Garfield at the Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course. Rounding out Issaquah’s scoring were Nick Brothers with a 36, Kevin Moon, Brendan Jung and Erik Fritz, all with 37’s.
In other action, Liberty lost to Interlake 196-217 at Maplewood Golf Course. Sean Pittman topped Liberty with a 39. Other Liberty scores were Alex Faulkner 41, Harrison Diemert 43, Roland Deex 46 and Chris Han 48. Interlake’s Zach Buchanan was medalist with a par 36.
Issaquah volleyball wins
The Issaquah High school volleyball team captured its first victory of the season Sept. 21 by defeating Redmond 3-0 at Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus. Issaquah won the games 25-11, 25-18, 25-18 in its 4A KingCo Conference opener.
Rachel Roeder had 14 kills, Riley Sorenson 27 assists and three aces, and Maddy Emerson 13 digs to lead Issaquah. Alyssa Schultz contributed six kills and 3 blocks, Sarah Hanna 10 kills and Kelsey Mollick 10 assists.
In other action, Skyline lost to host Roosevelt 3-1. Roosevelt won the games 26-24, 34-32, 18-25, 25-16. Olivia Marquardt had 17 kills, Maddie Magee 15 kills, Madison Stoa 41 assists, Andrea Chon 15 kills and Aly Pearce three aces to lead Skyline.
Former Eagle honored
Former Issaquah High School pitcher Matt Wickswat, who played for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League this summer, was named to the league all-star team. He led the league in strikeouts with 91, had an earned run average of 3.84 and a 2-2 record. Wickswat also was one of the club’s three winners of the Jim Brewer Award for the Most Valuable Pitcher in 2009. He also had a victory in the playoffs, striking out six in five innings at the Voyagers defeated the Missoula Osprey 3-1.
The Voyagers are a minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
