All of Dartmouth studies show that health care costs go up when you build more hospital beds in a region.. Health care is a business and having one organization control this much of the local market is not good for consumers. Now that they have opened up their private ortho hospital it is difficult to get ortho docs to work in local ER's. This is not need based but profit driven and Swedish as nice as it is also costs on average 30% more then other hospitals with the same or better outcomes. Then again when local hospital CEO's are making over a million a year I guess it is a little naive for anyone to believe consumers needs are driving these decisions.
