Churches join forces to feed the hungry

Several Issaquah churches and hundreds of parishioners will join forces during the next four weeks to fill shelves at the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank.
Executive Director Cherie Meier said she hoped local churches would someday work together to feed the hungry. Though many churches donate to the food bank, Meier and local church leaders said the monthlong food drive represented the first time so many churches have worked toward the same goal.
The multichurch food drive is “what I’ve always wished for,” Meier said last week, a few days ahead of the Sept. 26 kickoff. The push is part of the Eastside Month of Concern for the Hungry, a program to encourage businesses, community leaders, faith-based organizations, hospitals, neighborhood associations and schools to host food drives and fundraising events to fill pantry shelves. The drive, the Share What You Can campaign, lasts until Oct. 24. Read more
