What’s one creative way to make sure more people have access to health care?

September 21, 2009

NEW — 6 a.m. Sept. 21, 2009

Issaquah School District officials have mailed Washington Assessment of Student Learning scores home to families of high school students who took last spring’s exam.

Scores for students in the third through 12th grades were also posted under the district’s secure Family Access site.

Parents can access that site with their login and password information. If you have forgotten your login or password information, you can obtain them by contacting your school.

Families without Internet access may request paper copies from their child’s school.

You can also go to the state Superintendent’s Office Web site to view districtwide and statewide summaries of student performance on the exams. At that site, you will also find summaries of learning expectations for students in each grade level.

Would you like books with that? Dish Up Literacy for dinner

September 20, 2009

NEW — 6 a.m. Sept. 20, 2009

Tutta Bella and Julia’s in Issaquah are dishing up a health serving of literacy for dinner Sept. 24.

Thousands of restaurants across the state will participate in Dish Up Literacy, which benefits Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program.

All the restaurants need is you. By dining at either location in Issaquah, the owners of Tutta Bella and Julia’s will put books in the hands of thousands of children by donating a portion of the profits from your dinner.

The 18-year-old event provides books for at-risk children, helps make time for parents to read with their children and promotes community involvement in literacy.

This year, the event is predicted to give 44,366 new books to 18,086 children in King County.

Julia’s is at 375 N.W. Gilman Blvd.; Tutta Bella is at 715 N.W. Gilman Blvd.

Go to Dish Up Literacy to find other participating restaurants to patronize Sept. 24.
