Skyline, Issaquah post soccer wins

The Skyline and Issaquah high school girls soccer teams both posted 4A KingCo Conference victories Oct. 20 to remain tied for the league lead.

Skyline defeated visiting Lake Washington 3-1, and Issaquah downed visiting Roosevelt 4-1.

Emily Anderson scored two goals in Skyline’s victory against Lake Washington. Anderson’s second goal came at 77:10 and provided insurance for the Spartans after Lake Washington had cut Skyline’s lead to 2-1 six minutes earlier.

Anderson, assisted by Shea O’Donnell, gave Skyline a 1-0 lead six minutes into the contest. Michelle Bretl, assisted by Brittanee Randle, scored at 30:41 to give Skyline a 2-0 lead.

Margaret Rauch scored two goals in Issaquah’s win against Roosevelt. Abby Glasgow, assisted by Audrey Thomas, put Issaquah ahead 1-0 at the 11th minute. Rauch scored an unassisted goal seven minutes later.

Kristin Maris accounted for the Eagles’ third goal at the 54th minute, and Rauch scored again at the 69th minute.

Issaquah and Skyline have 8-1 league records.

Issaquah swimmers post easy triumph

The Issaquah High School girls swimming team swept all three relays as the Eagles overwhelmed Interlake, 115.5-56.5, Oct. 20 in a KingCo Conference meet at the Julius Boehm Pool.

Issaquah won the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Stacy Maier, Kayla Flaten, Marit Borth and Madeline Mull made up the 200 medley relay team. Borth, Kelly Herman, Mull and Sadie Phipps composed the 100 freestyle relay team. Kylie Lynch, Mull, Tessa McFarland and Kayla Foremski made up the 400 freestyle relay team.

Individual winners for Issaquah were Kelly Herman (200 freestyle), Phipps (200 individual medley), Jamie Elderkin (diving), Flaten (100 butterfly), Sarah Mirahsani (500 freestyle), Shannon Chen (100 backstroke) and Becca West (100 breaststroke).

In other league action, Liberty lost to Redmond 93-92.

Individual winners for Liberty were Sarah Lowes (200 freestyle), Kaitlyn Tsutakawa (diving), Elise Tinseth (500 freestyle) and Nicole Lecoq (100 backstroke). Tinseth, Caitlin Duffner, Lowes and Lecoq also made up Liberty’s winning 400 freestyle relay team.

Skyline netters top Bothell

The Skyline High School boys tennis team captured three of the singles matches Oct. 20 and cruised to a 6-1 KingCo Conference victory against Bothell.

Tyler Van Grunsven, of Skyline, won the No, 1 singles match with a 6-1, 6-0, victory against David Maggs.

Win Hubbard and Nasi Teodosiadis, of Skyline, took the No. 1 doubles match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Tim Bultman and Jake Arlan.

Spartans’ quarterback honored

Skyline High School quarterback Jake Heaps has been selected to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Heaps, who has led the Spartans to back-to-back state titles, is one of 90 players selected to play for the West team in the game. The contest is Jan. 9 in the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Heaps will receive a game jersey at 1:15 p.m. Oct. 23 in a ceremony in Skyline’s TV production room.
