The battle of KingCo 3A heavyweights Bellevue and Liberty kept the crowd screaming at Liberty High School Friday until the closing seconds. Liberty trailed 24-7 with less than five minutes to go in the third quarter, but quickly struck back with two quick touchdown passes from junior quarterback Trey Wheeler.
Bellevue added a field goal with 3:06 remaining in the game, bringing the score to 27-21. With a chance to take the lead, Liberty began its final drive from its own 20-yard line.
The Patriots marched down the field, heading to Wolverine territory, until one of Wheeler’s passes was intercepted on a 3rd down, securing the win for Bellevue.
