Issaquah School District officials are asking you to help them find a fitting name for the new elementary school under construction near Pine Lake on the Sammamish Plateau.

The last time families had the opportunity to name a school was in February 2006, when district officials were looking for a name for what is now known as Grand Ridge Elementary School.

Names should be derived from the area, geographic landmarks, housing developments, voting precincts, directional names or from names of people who have contributed greatly to education in the district.

All name suggestions must:

Be known and significant to people in the district.

Not conflict with names of other schools inside the district or in neighboring districts.

Not be those of living people, unless the circumstances are so great that the person should be honored.

For your name suggestion to be considered, you must fully explain why you believe it is a good name for the school.

There is not limit to the number of names you can suggest, but your suggested names must be submitted by 4 p.m. Monday.

The selection committee will give Issaquah School Board members a list of three to five of the best names for consideration. The final name will be announced at the Dec. 9 school board meeting.
