Alice A. Hegna, of Newcastle, died Nov. 4, 2009, at home. She was 67.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 12 at St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church in Bellevue. Private inurnment will be held at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle.

Alice was born June 5, 1942, at Fort Benning, Ga. She was raised in Seattle, on Beacon Hill, where she graduated from Cleveland High School. Following high school, Alice furthered her education at Western Washington University.

On July 23, 1966, Alice married Paul L. Hegna in Seattle at St. Peters Catholic Church. They settled in Newcastle in 1968 and raised three children there.

In her leisure time, Alice enjoyed bible study, knitting, cruises, a night at Village Theatre and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She is remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who possessed a caring spirit. Genuine and thoughtful, she was never afraid to speak her mind.

Survivors include her loving husband, Paul of Newcastle; daughters Sherry Hegna, of Bellevue, Teresa Leathley and her husband Jim, of Maple Valley, and Karyn Reed and her husband Steve, of Cameron Park, Calif.; siblings John Brinsmead, of Issaquah, and Andrea Moawad, of Lakewood; seven grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Arrangements are entrusted to Flintoft’s Funeral Home and Crematory, 392-6444.
