Elmer Albert Peters died peacefully and suddenly at his home in Sammamish on Nov. 17, 2009. He was 73.A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Dec. 5 at Faith United Methodist Church, 3924 Issaquah-Pine Lake Road, Issaquah.

Elmer was born in Yakima on Aug. 19, 1936, to Elmer Peters Sr. and Marie Ann St. George Peters. He was raised in Yakima, graduating from Yakima High School in 1955. He was educated at Central Washington University, graduating in 1959. On June 15, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Janie Briggs, and they were married 52 years.

Elmer chose music education as his profession, and taught for 30 years — the last 17 years in the Bellevue School District. He was also a professional musician all of his adult life, a private music teacher for a number of years, assistant director and instrumentalist in the Bellevue Community Band, a church choir director, a sports enthusiast and he enjoyed camping in the family motor home.

Survivors are his wife, Jane, sons David and Douglas (Jennifer), and four grandchildren. Another son, Darrell, preceded his father in death in 2003. Elmer is also survived by a brother, two sisters, and numerous nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Flintoft’s Funeral Home in Issaquah.
