Issaquah grad conquers Rotary Run

During his Issaquah High School running days, Jon Harding almost always finished first or near the top.

Well, nothing has really changed for the Issaquah graduate. On Oct. 4, he took first place in the 5K race at the Issaquah Rotary Run at Salmon Days.

Harding completed the race in 15 minutes, 38 seconds. He finished a minute ahead of second-place runner Ryan Goldstein, of Seattle.

Liberty High School coach Michael Smith was third in 16:43. Skyline High School graduate Joey Chirillo was sixth in 18:57 and current Skyline runner Jamon Rogers was seventh in 19:02. Read more

Local teen competes for Miss Jr. Teen Seattle title

Jennifer DeVere, of Sammamish, was recently selected to participate in the national Miss Jr. Teen Seattle pageant Oct. 11.

DeVere submitted an application and took part in an interview session conducted by this year’s Seattle pageant coordinator.

DeVere will compete for a share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. She’ll compete in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of four divisions with contestants between ages 7-19 who compete in modeling routines that include casual wear and formal wear. Read more

In high school cross country meets, it always helps to have some talented runners who can finish near the top of the pack. It also helps to have depth. When a team has talent and depth, it has a chance to be very competitive.

This year, the Issaquah, Skyline and Liberty boys cross country teams have talent and depth, a major reason they have ranked among the top KingCo Conference squads.

The top individual runners this season include Kevin LeMond and Chris Brasino, of Issaquah; Kyle Branch and Mark Frerker, of Skyline; and Eric Bice and Josiah Sherwood, of Liberty. Read more

Issaquah Community Bank to merge with three others

Issaquah Community Bank is merging with three other regional banks to form the Bank of the Northwest. The merger includes The Bank of Everett, The Bank of Bellevue and The Bank of Tacoma and should be complete by the end of the year if it is given regulatory approval by government officials. Since the festival originated in 1970 — and a mere 15,000 people showed up — Salmon Days has provided a chance to showcase Issaquah to the Puget Sound region and, as the festival grew, the world. Read more
