Fans of ballroom dance partner up at Grimaldi’s Coffee House in Gilman Village last month for the first gathering of tango night. By Greg Farrar
Imagine reclining in a couch, holding a mug of coffee in one hand, speaking and laughing with a friend in between sips. White Christmas lights frame the window to the right and the bright, multicolored work of Bellevue artist Judie L. Hansen hangs on the wall straight ahead.
And in the next room? Tango.
It’s the kind of cozy, family atmosphere the newly opened Grimaldi’s Coffee House is trying to bring to Issaquah with a variety of entertainment, from singer-songwriters, jazz musicians and yes, a tango night. Read more

Skyline and Issaquah high school girls track and field teams always ranked among the best when they were at the 3A KingCo Conference level. Now that both have moved up a level, it appears that nothing has changed.

Issaquah topped Mount Si 76-84 March 26, and then took second place March 28 in the always-strong Kent-Meridian Invitational. Read more
Liberty downs Bellevue 3-1; keeps league lead
March 30, 2009

Connor Sjolander, Liberty junior pitcher, throws to a Bellevue batter during the fourth inning. His complete-game effort led to a two-hit, 3-1 victory. By Greg Farrar
Connor Sjolander tossed a two-hit, complete game in leading the Liberty High School baseball team to a 3-1 win March 25 at Bellevue High School.
The game, originally scheduled as a home game for Liberty, was moved to Bellevue because the Wolverines have an artificial turf infield that stands up better to inclement weather conditions, said Steve Darnell, Liberty head coach.
The wet conditions didn’t bother Sjolander.
“He is really coming into his own,” Darnell said.
Darnell credits first-year pitching coach Gerald Smiley’s work with the staff. Read more

Issaquah’s Michael Dixon bobbles the ball as Eastlake’s Nicholas Smith slides into second base March 26. By Christopher Huber
Issaquah High School’s Eagles were 90 feet away from winning March 26.
The Eagles had tied it at five on a seventh-inning, RBI safety squeeze bunt by Grant Gellatly, but needed one more to put the Wolves away.
Eastlake wouldn’t let it happen.
Despite getting two more runners on base, Issaquah couldn’t muster that one key hit it needed. Just a blooper over the first baseman’s head or a liner into center field would have done it. Read more
