The next City Council members — newcomers Tola Marts and Mark Mullet — will take the oath of office and join the seven-member panel Monday night.
Municipal Judge N. Scott Stewart will swear in Marts and Mullet, as well as Councilwoman Maureen McCarry, Councilwoman Eileen Barber and Mayor Ava Frisinger. The terms end Dec. 31, 2013.
The ceremony will open the 7:30 p.m. council meeting at City Hall South, 135 E. Sunset Way.
After the swearing-in ceremony, council members will elect a new council president and deputy council president. The council president runs semimonthly meetings, handles committee assignments and represents the city if Frisinger is absent.
Marts and Mullet spent the summer and fall attending council meetings and workshops to prepare for their new roles. Marts will succeed longtime Councilman David Kappler, while Mullet will replace single-term Councilman John Rittenhouse.
Marts outpaced Issaquah Highlands resident Nathan Perea, and McCarry bested South Cove real estate agent Joan Probala in the November election. Mullet, Barber and Frisinger cruised to victory in unopposed races.
McCarry will begin her second four-year term as a councilwoman. She was earlier appointed to the council from 1998-2000. Barber will begin her second term, while Frisinger will start her fourth term as mayor.
