Rosemarie Johnston, of Issaquah, died Jan. 1, 2010, at Providence Marianwood Care Center in Issaquah. She was 87.Internment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rosemarie was born May 1, 1922 in Spokane, the third child and only daughter of William and Rose Marie Roth. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane in 1940. In that same year, she moved to Southern California, eventually becoming a telephone operator.

In 1949, she married her fiancé of one year, Newton Johnston. She spent her married life of 51 years as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In 1986, Rosemarie and Newton moved to Kirkland to be closer to their daughter and her family. For several years during their retirement, Rosemarie and Newton were weekly volunteers at the Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop. Rosemarie was also an assistant manager of Totem Lake Heights Apartments. They especially enjoyed spending time with their family. She moved to Issaquah in 2006.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her husband Newton in 2000. She is survived by her loving daughter Diane (Jim) Blankenship, of Sammamish; brother John “Mickey” Roth, of California; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the Eastside Community Aid or Shriners’ Hospitals for Children.

Arrangements are under the direction of Flintoft’s Issaquah Funeral Home.
