Spartans top Roosevelt

The Skyline High School boys basketball team shot to a 14-point first-quarter lead and held on to defeat host Roosevelt 48-43 Jan. 12 in a 4A KingCo Conference contest.

Cory Hutsen topped Skyline with 19 points and Connor Gacek added 13, as the Spartans remained tied with Garfield for first place in the Crest Division.

Skyline led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter and held a 32-19 advantage at halftime. Roosevelt made a run at the Spartans in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t catch Skyline.

In other 4A KingCo action, Issaquah fell to Ballard 65-53. The Eagles held a 28-23 lead at halftime, but Ballard roared back in the second half.

The host Beavers outscored Issaquah 20-9 in the third quarter. Joe Evans led Issaquah with 21 points.
