Issaquah girls buzz by Ballard
The Issaquah High School girls basketball team got off to a slow start Jan. 13 against host Ballard, but the Eagles got hot in the second quarter and pulled away to a 45-23 victory.
The win left the Eagles on top of the 4A KingCo Conference Crest Division with a 7-0 record.
Issaquah held just a 7-6 lead after the first quarter, but blew out Ballard 14-5 in the second quarter. The Eagles outscored Ballard 15-0 in the third period to build up a commanding lead.
Mackenzie Schiltz, of Issaquah, led all players with 15 points. Aimee Brakken and Brooke Miller each added eight points for the Eagles, who play Skyline at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Bellevue College.
In other 4A KingCo action, Skyline topped host Roosevelt 44-42. The Spartans, 3-4 in league play, trailed by one point after the third quarter, but outscored Roosevelt down the stretch in the final period to pull out the victory.
Haley Smith, of Skyline, led all players with 15 points. Teammate Kassia Fortier contributed 13 points and Rachel Shim added eight.
In 3A/2A action, Liberty fell to host Juanita 50-33. The final score was a bit deceiving, as Liberty led by three points after three quarters. Juanita outscored the Patriots 26-6 in the final quarter.
