King County planners will answer questions about growth plan

Officials will discuss the key King County growth blueprint at a Jan. 28 open house in Issaquah.Among the items officials will consider in the King County Comprehensive Plan Draft update is a proposal to redraw the urban growth boundary to include 35 acres in the Issaquah Highlands.

The forested land west of Central Park could be developed under a transfer of development rights from the Park Pointe property near Issaquah High School. City officials want to conserve the Park Pointe land on Tiger Mountain by allowing additional construction in the highlands.

But the outcome of the proposed transfer remains uncertain because the Park Pointe developer, Wellington Park Pointe LLC, entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November. The development-rights swap would involve Issaquah officials, highlands developer Port Blakely Communities and the eventual owner of the Park Pointe land.

The open house is from 5-7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Pickering Room, City Hall Northwest, 1775 12th Ave. N.W.

The comprehensive plan update also proposes modifications to county development code and updates to a transportation report.
