Eagles tip Knights in OT
Very little has gone right for the Issaquah High School boys basketball team this season. There have been some tough losses, some games where the Eagles just didn’t get the breaks. However, Feb. 9, the Eagles pulled off a dramatic victory when they outlasted the host Newport Knights 61-60 in overtime.
Nick Price paced the Eagles with 25 points and Joe Evans had 14 points. Derek Wilson also contributed 12 points for the Eagles, who are 3-12 in 4A KingCo Conference play. Issaquah trailed 42-35 after three quarters but fought back in the final period to tie the game at 54-all.
The Eagles conclude their season Friday at Skyline.
In other action, Skyline remained in a tie for first place in the Crest Division with Garfield when the Spartans cruised by Redmond 62-33. The Spartans held Redmond to just 16 points through the first three quarters while building up a commanding 29-point lead. Cory Hutsen topped Skyline with 11 points and Bryan Cikatz added nine points. Garfield meanwhile defeated Eastlake 91-80. Skyline and Garfield both have 12-3 league records.
In 3A/2A KingCo action, Liberty lost to host Mercer Island 65-42. Chandler Jenkins led the Patriots with 14 points. Liberty, 3-8 in league play, will enter the league tournament next week as the No. 5 seed. The Patriots picked up a victory this week when Juanita had to forfeit its Feb. 4 victory against Liberty.
In 3A/2A KingCo girls action, Liberty fell to host Mercer Island 53-37. Mercer Island, the league leader, shot to a 18-4 first quarter lead and stayed in front for good. Maddie Birdsall and Danni Sjolander each had seven points to lead Liberty.
