Eastlake shocks Issaquah in 4A KingCo tournament

Kendra Morrison and Alyssa Charlston combined for 41 points Feb. 17 as Eastlake High School upset Issaquah 60-57 in the first round of 4A KingCo Conference girls basketball tournament.
Eastlake advances to the tournament semifinals and plays Garfield at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at Juanita High School. Issaquah plays Roosevelt at 3 p.m. Feb. 20 in a loser-out game at Juanita.
Issaquah had defeated Eastlake twice this season, 68-61 and 51-45. This time, Eastlake came from behind in the final quarter to outscore the Eagles 15-11 to win.
Morrison led Eastlake with 22 points and Charlston had 19. Maddey Pflaumer topped Issaquah, the Crest Division champions, with 17 points. Blaire Brady and Domi Mendezona each added nine points.
In other tournament action, top-seeded Woodinville defeated Skyline 51-45. Melissa Gilkey, a 6-foot-junior, led Woodinville with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
Skyline trailed Woodinville 27-21 at halftime, but kept fighting back in the second half. The Spartans trailed only 45-43 with 4:12 left in the game. However, Woodinville’s Crystal Nybo hit a pair of free throws and Ali Forde, a 6-1 sophomore, scored on a layin as the Falcons pulled away.
Newport, led by Betsy Kingma’s 29 points, defeated Lake Washington and Garfield downed Roosevelt 47-23.
Newport plays Woodinville Feb. 20 at 8:15 p.m. in the other tournament semifinal.
