Ben Gay

Ben Allen Gay, of Sammamish, died Feb. 15, 2010, after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He was 53.

The cancer may have claimed him, but it could never take away his sweet smile and gentle nature.

There will be a celebration of life for Ben at The First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, at 2 p.m. Feb. 24. The church is at 1717 Bellevue Way N.E.

The beloved son of Alex Henry Gay Jr., deceased, and Christine Willingham Gay of Atlanta, Ben was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Milledgeville, Ga. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon Frame Gay, daughter Jennifer Hogan Belding, her husband Ryan Belding and their son.

He leaves behind his much-loved brother, Alex H. Gay III and sister Peggy Torcivia, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.  Grieving his loss also is his devoted dog, Jack, who was by his side constantly.

Ben graduated from J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, Va., in 1965, and went on to graduate with a degree in economics in 1970 from Clemson University, S.C. During this time, he also served in the Air Force Reserve.

Ben spent his career in banking and finance, but his heart was in the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, sailing, fly fishing and golfing. He loved working with wood and made fine cherry furniture, bowls and special pieces of furniture for family and friends.

He always strived to be a man of good name and character, and this is truly his greatest legacy.
