Gloria Teresa Scholl Seiler died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, in Issaquah. She was 85.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 27 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Issaquah. Private interment will be in New Orleans.
The youngest of six children, Gloria was born Sept. 24, 1924, in New Orleans, to Henry Joseph and Marguerite Ulmo Scholl. She attended high school in Baton Rouge, and then did watch repair in New Orleans. In 1944, Gloria married Joseph Ellery Seiler.
They lived in Jefferson, La., until 1957, when they moved to Missouri, where Joe attended Eden Theological Seminary. They lived in several places, serving the United Church of Christ and then the United Methodist Church as pastor and very active wife.
Following her husband’s death in 1981, Gloria earned her Associate of Arts degree from San Jacinto College, Houston, while living with her son Dale and his family, and was a public school classroom aide. She moved to Aurora, Colo., in 1986 to live near her son Keith and his family and to help care for her grandsons. In 1995, she moved with them to Issaquah.
She was active at the Julius Boehm Pool and in Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the choir and active in the seniors’ group. She liked gardening, crafts and reading, and she traveled often to visit family in Chicago, New Orleans and Austin, Texas. Friends called her the “Jet Set Grandma.” She was always close to her New Orleans roots and her room was decorated for Mardi Gras at the time of her death.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband and her siblings. Surviving are her three children, Gloria (Charles) French, Keith (Betsy) Seiler and Dale (Stephanie) Seiler; six grandchildren.
Following her husband’s death in 1981, Gloria was supported, in part, by the Louisiana Conference of United Methodist Church. The family suggests remembrances to LA Annual Conference UMC Pensions Fund, Attn. Rev. Larry Miller, 527 N. Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
