The Skyline boys basketball team is the KingCo champ for the first time in school history.
The Spartans beat Lake Washington 52-42 in front of a packed house at Juanita High School Feb. 26. Skyline led the entire game after the first five minutes.
“Since we were all in the sixth grade, we dreamed of hanging a banner on the wall,” said senior forward Cory Hutsen as the team and fans celebrated on the court.
Three-sport standout Kasen Williams dominated in the paint, snatching rebounds from the reach of the Kangaroos’ looming 6-foot-10 center, Darien Nelson-Henry.
“We knew if we didn’t come out as hard as we could, they would jump all over it,” Williams said.
Williams finished with a game-high 13 points and Hutsen had 12. Skyline’s Connor Gacek scored 12 as well.
